Fitchburg State Downs Suffolk, 86-61

Lee posts game-best 25 points in Falcons season opening victory

BRISTOL, R.I. - In the second game, Fitchburg State would open the second half on a 17-8 run to take its largest lead of the game up to that point, leading 48-30 with 15:27 to play. A thunderous off-the-backboard dunk by Maurice Greene from Leonny Burgos put the Falcons up by 19, as Fitchburg State would go on to defeat Suffolk, 86-61 at the 2014 RWU/Courtyard By Marriott Tip-Off Tournament this evening.

Suffolk and Fitchburg State battled early on, with Suffolk staying within four points for most of the first half. However, Fitchburg State was able to pull away late in the period and take an eight-point advantage going into the second half (31-23).

Kwame Lee led all scorers with 25 points and eight rebounds. Greene added nine points and eight boards, while Keyon Armstrong went for 15 points. Jalen Williams added ten points and six rebounds off the bench for the Green and Gold.

Sam Nwadike led Suffolk with 21 points and four assists along with three steals. Jake Meister finished with 15 points, five rebounds, and five steals, while Matt Duquette added ten points and three steals for the Rams.

Fitchburg State (1-0, 0-0 MASCAC) returns to action tomorrow as it as it takes on Roger Williams University in the championship game at 3 p.m. Suffolk (0-1, 1-0 GNAC) will battle Lesley University in the consolation game tomorrow at 1 p.m.
