Fitchburg State Rallies Past Becker, 74-65

Bosworth and Lee record double-double in Falcons third win of the season

LEICESTER, Mass.- The Fitchburg State men's basketball team defeated the Hawks of Becker College, 74-65 in non-conference action this afternoon at the Leicester Gymnasium.

The Falcons (3-2, 0-0 MASCAC) were led by sophomore Josh Bosworth with a team-high 14 points and 13 rebounds, while senior Kwame Lee  also earned a double-double with 12 points and ten boards.  Fellow senior Givaughn Jones added 11 points, while junior Jaleel Bell came off the bench to score 13 for the Green and Gold.

The Hawks (0-3), 0-0 NECC) were paced by Reginald Finney with a game-high 21 points, while Rashaun Liggon finished with 15 points and six boards. Kyle Credle was also solid for the hosts, adding ten points.

Becker controlled the beginning of the first half, taking leads as large as 12 points. After Liggon put the Hawks in front 21-9 on a three-pointer with 11:53 remaining in the opening half, Fitchburg State went a 12-2 run to tie the game at 23-23 with 4:27 left. The Hawks took a 37-32 lead into the half as Finney knocked down a layup with 1:14 remaining in the frame.

Follow the break, the Falcons took their first lead of the game 2:12 into the second half when senior Anthony Muccioli nailed a jumper before Becker took the lead back with a Finney layup. The Hawks maintained a slim advantage until junior Leonny Burgos converted a pair of free-throws at the 13:49 mark. The Burgos free-throws propelled the Falcons on a 16-4 run, giving the visitors their largest lead of the game at 64-50 with just under minutes to go.

With Fitchburg State leading 66-53, Becker rallied back with a 10-1 run to bring the Hawks within striking distance at 67-63 before the visitors hit five of six free-throws down the stretch, resulting in the 74-65 final.

Becker returns to the court on Tuesday, November 24 when they host Babson College at 4:00 p.m. Fitchburg State will shoot for their fourth win in a row when they travel to UMass Boston on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
