Men's Basketball Surpassed by Saints

FITCHBURG, MA: Fitchburg State men's basketball fell this evening to Emmanuel College in non-conference action.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 11/14/23

- Score: Emmanuel 86, Fitchburg 68

- Records: Emmanuel (2-1), Fitchburg (0-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Falcon continued to play a tight first half. The Saints got out to a 12-point lead early on but let the Falcons get back into the game just before the half. The Falcons got within one at 29-30 with just four minutes left in the half. The two teams would trade buckets the rest of the half until the Saints took a four-point lead into the break.  

- Emmanuel would quickly push their lead out to 16 in the second half before both teams stalled out at 68-59 for more than four minutes. The Saints would break that rut with a three-pointer, giving them a 71-55 lead with 5:24 left. Fitchburg would go on to score just 13 points in the rest of the contest.  

- Zaire Baines finished with a game-high 25 points for Emmanuel, along with seven assists. He was followed by Donte Pope, who had an impressive game, finishing with a double-double of 20 points and 20 rebounds.

- The Falcons were led by Javon Taylor (Cambridge, MA) with 20 points and seven boards. Matthew Drayton (Boston, MA) and Colin Quinn (South Hadley, MA) also contributed more than ten points each. Drayton put in 15 points, with Quinn racking up 14.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shooting %: Emmanuel 43.3%, 3-PT 35.5%, FT 85%. Fitchburg 38.6%, 3-PT 28%, FT 58.6%.

-  Rebounds: Emmanuel 45, Fitchburg 28

-  Assists: Emmanuel 19, Fitchburg 13
