FITCHBURG, Mass. (March 5, 2009) - Fitchburg State sophomore Robert Vorse (Leominster, Mass./Bay State Breakers) earned his first career post-season honor after being tabbed the ECAC Northeast Goalie of the Year by ECAC Northeast Commissioner Rudy Keeling this afternoon.

Sophomore Robert Vorse was
named the 2008-09 ECAC NE
Goalie of the Year.

In addition to his Goalie of the Year accolade, Vorse was named to the ECAC Northeast All-Conference first team after posting 484 saves in 995 minutes played. Between the pipes, Vorse was a dominant force, tallying a .936 save percentage and limiting opponents to only 2.23 goals per game.

Vorse, a Leominster, Mass. native, ranked among league leaders in save percentage (2nd), goals against average (4th) and winning percentage (6th) while leading the Falcons into the ECAC Northeast semifinals. The sophomore standout was even better in conference play, totaling a .936 save percentage (2nd) and 2.00 GAA (3rd) in ten ECAC Northeast matches.

"This is truly a great honor for Bob and the program," said Fuller. "He came into the off-season working hard, earned the starting job, and became the #1 goalie in the conference. He is a hard worker and great asset to the team."

As a member of the Fitchburg State ice hockey team, Vorse has appeared in 19 career contests, registering 546 saves in 1089 minutes of work. The flashy net-minder has racked up an incredible .927 save percentage over his two-year career, while holding opponents to a minimal 2.37 goals against average.

Fitchburg State concluded its 2008-09 campaign with an overall record of 13-9-5 while boasting a 9-5-3 mark in the ECAC Northeast. The Falcons qualified as the fifth-seed for the ECAC Northeast Tournament, defeating fourth-seeded UMass Dartmouth, 3-2 in the quarterfinal round.
