Falcons net-minder collects second post-season award

FITCHBURG, Mass. (April 2, 2009) - Fitchburg State sophomore Robert Vorse (Leominster, Mass./Bay State Breakers) was named to the 2008-2009 New England ECAC Northeast all-star team as announced by the New England Hockey Writers this past week

Vorse, the 2008-2009 ECAC Northeast Goalie of the Year, earned his first collegiate All-Region honor after having a standout season for the Falcons. In addition to his regional honor Vorse was also named to the ECAC Northeast All-Conference first team after posting 484 saves in 995 minutes played. Between the pipes, Vorse was a dominant force, tallying a .936 save percentage and limiting opponents to only 2.23 goals per game.

Vorse, a Leominster, Mass. native, ranked among league leaders in save percentage (2nd), goals against average (4th) and winning percentage (6th) while leading the Falcons into the ECAC Northeast semifinals. The sophomore standout was even better in conference play, totaling a .936 save percentage (2nd) and 2.00 GAA (3rd) in ten ECAC Northeast matches.

As a member of the Fitchburg State ice hockey team, Vorse has appeared in 19 career contests, registering 546 saves in 1089 minutes of work. A recipient of the prestigious Fitchburg State Soaring Falcon award, Vorse has racked up an incredible .927 save percentage over his two-year career, while holding opponents to a minimal 2.37 goals against average.           

Fitchburg State concluded its 2008-09 campaign with an overall record of 13-9-5 while boasting a 9-5-3 mark in the ECAC Northeast. The Falcons qualified as the fifth-seed for the ECAC Northeast Tournament, defeating fourth-seeded UMass Dartmouth, 3-2 in the quarterfinal round.
