Six Falcons net makers in team's conference leading 15th victory of the season

FITCHBURG, Mass. (February 11, 2010) - The Fitchburg State ice hockey team rolled to its tenth consecutive victory as the Falcons registered a 6-3 victory over MASCAC foe, Framingham State College this evening.

tenth straight victory.

Fitchburg State used a balanced offensive attack with six different players registering goals in the contest. Junior Andrew Jones (Franklin, Mass./Walpole Express) and sophomoreTucker Callen (Annadale, N.J./Wagner) each collected two points with one goal and one assist, while junior Chris Riggs (Sewell, N.J./Fort Vancouver Pioneers) and freshman Justin Quinn (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) both added two helpers.

The Falcons opened the contest with an incredible wave of momentum as Fitchburg State notched three scores in the opening 4:22. Jones sparked the Falcons scoring rally with his third marker of the season just 2:58 into the contest, while senior Erik Trahan (Manville, R.I./Winchendon School) and sophomore Thomas McAleer (East Islip, N.Y./New York Bobcats) tallied back-to-back scores over a span of 0:15.

In the second stanza, Fitchburg State continued its first frame momentum as Callen found the back of the net at the 3:03 mark. Callen collected his second, game-winning score of the year with feeds from Jones and sophomore Billy Pescosolido (Framingham, Mass./Walpole Express) before Framingham State closed the scoring gap to 4-2 with goals from Eric Walsh (Haverhill, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) and Trevor Johnson (Anchorage, AK/Eugene Generals).

Fitchburg State regained its four goal advantage early in the third period as sophomore Kris Threlkeld (Centerville, Ohio/CD Selects) lifted the Falcons with his ninth score of the season. The Rams responded with their third score of the game at the 6:16 mark with a marker by Matt Lally (Natick, Mass./Southern Maine), but the Falcons defense held strong, holding Framingham State scoreless for the remainder of the contest.

The Falcons controlled the game's offensive tempo, posting a 36 to 29 advantage in shots. Junior Robert Vorse (Leominster, Mass./Bay State Breakers) picked up his eighth victory of the season with a 26 save, complete game effort, while Framingham State goalie Terrence Sullivan (Shirley, Mass./Exeter Freeze) totaled 29 stops in the loss.    

Fitchburg State (15-3-1, 11-2-0 MASCAC) will hit the ice again on Saturday as it hosts Salem State College at 7 p.m. Framingham State (1-17-2, 1-12-1 MASCAC) will travel to Worcester State College on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
