Leiser stops 29 shots as Falcons winning streak comes to an end

FITCHBURG, Mass. (February 14, 2010) - The Fitchburg State ice hockey team saw its ten game-winning streak come to an end as Salem State topped the Falcons, 4-2 in MASCAC action this Saturday.

Sophomore Bobby Leiser stopped 29
shots in net for the Falcons.

Salem State jumped out to an early advantage and never looked back as Nick Lampson (Groton, Mass./South Kent) connected for his 11th goal of the season at 8:50 of the first period. Lampson took assists from Casey Terreri (Warwick, R.I./Warwick) and Kevin Hughes (Natick, Mass./Saint Sebastian's) on the play, giving the Vikings an early 1-0 edge.

In the second period, both teams tallied a pair of goals as Trevor Lawler (Annadale, N.J./Wagner) and Chris Riggs (Sewell, N.J./Fort Vancouver Pioneers) found the back of the net for the Falcons. Lawler struck first just 1:54 into the period, while Riggs kept the Falcons within a one goal striking distance with his 11th score of the season at the 8:01 mark.

Clinging to a one goal lead through two periods of play, Salem State turned to Terreri again, who gave the Vikings two goal advantage just three minutes into the third frame. Terreri increased the Vikings lead to 4-2 with his seventh goal of the season, using helpers from Dan Smolinsky (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth) and San Cannata (Bozeman, MT/College Mathieau) on the drive.

Salem State limited Fitchburg State's scoring opportunities in the final period of play, holding the Falcons to only six shots in the period, while tallying a 33-26 advantage for the game. Sophomore Bobby Leiser (Monroe, N.Y./New York Applecore) notched 29 saves despite the loss for the Falcons, while goalie James LaCour (Silver Springs, Md./Xaverian Brothers) turned away 24 shots to pick up his sixth win.
