Vorse Signs Contract With Cergy-Pontoise Jokers

Former Falcon inks deal with elite French hockey league (FFHG)

FITCHBURG, Mass. (August 16, 2011) – Former Fitchburg State University goaltender, Robert Vorse, recently signed a one-year deal with the Cergy-Pontoise Jokers of the elite French hockey league, the Fédération Française de Hockey sur Glace (FFHG) Division I.

The FFHG - Division I consists of 14 teams throughout the country of France. Teams compete in two phases throughout the season. The first phase consists of a 26 game schedule beginning in September 2011 and running through April 2012. Phase two completes the season with an eight team playoff, using a best-of-three format to determine the league champion.

“This is certainly a great opportunity to play in the FFHG with the Cergy-Pontoise Jokers,” said Vorse. “I would like to thank my coaches, my teammates and most of all, my family. Without them, this opportunity would not be possible.”

During his four-year career at Fitchburg State, Vorse was as strong as they came, earning a pair of Goalie of the Year honors and being named a New England Sports Writers Northeast Region All-Star. This past season, Vorse and the Falcons captured the 2010-11 MASCAC Championship, defeating Salem State University, 6-5 in overtime.

In the crease, Vorse posted remarkable career numbers en route to an overall record of 29-14-5. His 2.69 goals against average currently ranks first all-time among Fitchburg State goaltenders, while his .914 save percentage and 1,451 saves are also among program leaders.

“During his time, Bobby was one of the best college goaltenders out there,” said Fitchburg State head coach Dean Fuller. “This is a great opportunity for him and I’m sure he will do a tremendous job!”

Vorse is set to report to preseason camp on August 21st as he and the Jokers look to rebound from a 5-20-1 mark during the 2010-11 season. The Jokers will kick off the 2011-12 campaign on September 10th with all news, scores and highlights being found at http://jokers-hccp.perso.sfr.fr/.
