Quinn registers four points as Falcons pick up first victory of the season

FITCHBURG, Mass. (November 13, 2012) – Senior Justin Quinn (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) notched four points on one goal and three assists to lift the Fitchburg State ice hockey team over Framingham State, 8-2 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this evening.

Fitchburg State jumped out to an early lead just 3:09 into the opening period as freshman Ryan Connolly (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./New York Applecore) tallied his first collegiate marker on feeds from junior Carlo DiPiazza (Ridgewood, N.J./Connecticut Jr. Wolfpack) and freshman Mike Morrison (Scarborough, Me./Portland Jr. Pirates) for the 1-0 lead.

The Falcons doubled their lead (2-0) at the 11:31 mark when freshman John Celli (Leominster, Mass./Valley Jr. Warriors) knocked home his second score of the season. Sophomore Sean Loebs (Cresskill, N.J./Connecticut Jr. Wolfpack) and freshman Ryan Bedard (Derby Line, Vt./Bay State Breakers) assisted on the play.

Framingham State broke its scoring silence (2-1) with just under five minutes remaining in the stanza, as sophomore Ryan MacDonald (Anchorage, AK/Seattle Totems) found the back of the net for his first goal of the season going into the first intermission.

In the second frame, the Green and Gold regained a two goal margin on a pair of power-play tallies, Quinn opened the scoring at the 1:52 mark on his second score of the year before senior Trevor Lawler (Fitchburg, Mass./New England Jr. Huskies) followed suit less than a minute later.

The Falcons capped the scoring in the third period, as Loebs found the back of the net for his second tally of the season before freshman Max Lorenzen (Leesburg, Va./Valley Jr. Warriors) added back-to-back markers resulting in the 8-2 final.

In net, junior Randy Wolcott (East Haven, Conn./Wisconsin-Stevens Point) totaled 20 saves in 55 minutes of action for Fitchburg State, while junior Dale Adams (Gardner, Mass./Groton School) posted 29 stops for the Rams in the setback.

Fitchburg State (1-2-1, 1-0-0 MASCAC) will be in action on Thursday as it hosts Salem State University at 7 p.m. Framingham State (0-1-0, 0-1-0 MASCAC) will host Plymouth State University on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
