Fitchburg State Trio Collect MASCAC Weekly Awards

Celli named MASCAC Co-Player of the Week; Martin tabbed MASCAC Rookie of the Week; Wysocki selected MASCAC Goaltender of the Week

FITCHBURG, Mass. (January 27, 2014) – Sophomore forward John Celli (Leominster, Mass.), freshman forward Jake Martin (Montreal, Que.) and junior net minder Ryan Wysocki (Grand Rapids, Mich.) all earned Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) ice hockey weekly awards this week as announced by the conference office on Sunday evening.

Celli collects his first weekly accolade of the season after being tabbed MASCAC Men’s Ice Hockey Co-Player of the Week. The second-year Falcon totaled four points on three goals and one assist, including a pair of game-winning scores in a 2-0-0 week for Fitchburg State. Celli notched a pair of goals in the Falcons 3-1 victory over Westfield State on Thursday evening before posting two points on one score and one helper in the Falcons 8-2 win against Framingham State on Saturday afternoon.

Martin earns his third weekly honor of the 2013-14 campaign after being named MASCAC Men’s Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week. Jake collected three scores and one assist for four points in a 2-0-0 week for the Falcons. Martin registered one dish in the Green and Gold’s 3-1 triumph against Westfield State on Thursday evening, while notching his first collegiate hat-trick to lift the Falcons to a 8-2 victory over the Rams of Framingham State on Saturday afternoon.

Between the pipes, Wysocki also earns his third weekly honor of the season after being selected MASCAC Men’s Ice Hockey Goaltender of the Week.  The junior goaltender recorded 61 saves with a .953 save percentage and a 1.80 goals against average to guide the Falcons to a 2-0-0 week. Ryan stopped 34 shots in Fitchburg State’s 3-1 win over the Owls of Westfield State on Thursday evening before making 27 saves in an 8-2 road victory against Framingham State on Saturday afternoon.

The Fitchburg State ice hockey team (8-9-0, 5-5-0 MASCAC) will be back in action on Thursday at it travels to Salem State University to take on the Vikings at 7:00 p.m.
