Ice Hockey Earns Two All-Conference Accolades

Halpin named to All-Conference first team; Celli earns second team honors

FITCHBURG, Mass. (March 3, 2014) – The Fitchburg State ice hockey team named a pair of players to the 2013-14 MASCAC All-Conference Team as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Junior defenseman Craig Halpin (Irvington, N.Y.) led the way for the Fitchburg State ice hockey team, garnering All-Conference first team honors, while sophomore forward John Celli (Leominster, Mass.) was named to the All-Conference second team.

On the season, Halpin led the way for the Falcons blue-line, guiding Fitchburg State to the second best penalty kill rate in the nation among all NCAA Division III schools with a rate of 91.7 % (111-of-121). Craig added to the offensive mix as well, ranking fourth on the team in scoring with 18 points on a team-leading 18 assists.

Celli played an instrumental role in Fitchburg State's offense this season. The second year Falcon finished second on the team in goals scored with 12, while ranking first on the team in scoring with 24 points on 12 scores and 12 helpers. The sophomore forward currently ranks second in the league with seven power play tallies.

The Fitchburg State ice hockey team concluded the 2013-14 campaign with an overall record of 11-14-1 and an 8-9-1 clip within conference play.
