Fitchburg State Draws Even With New England College, 2-2 (OT)

Snyder collects pair of goal in Falcons non-conference tie

HENNIKER, N.H. – Sophomore forward Cameron Snyder registered a pair of goals as the Fitchburg State ice hockey team played the Pilgrims of New England College to a 2-2 overtime draw in non-conference action at the Lee Clement Arena this evening.

Fitchburg State grabbed the lead six minutes into the first period as Snyder collected a feed from senior Brett Nussbaum and junior Ryan Connolly and deposited the puckl into the back of the net for the 1-0 advantage. 

The Pilgrims tied the contest with just under three minutes remaining in the opening frame when senior Kevin Marceau collected his first marker of the season on the power-play, using an assist by junior Cheyne Matheson to make the score 1-1 after 20 minutes of play.

In the middle stanza, New England College took the lead midway through the period as newcomer Bryce Nielson fired a shot inside the near post for the 2-1 margin. Classmate Andrew Price assisted on the play.

In the final period of play, the Falcons knotted the score (2-2) at the 8:28 mark when Snyder gathered a feed from senior Kevin Holmes and buried a shot into the back of net for his second tally of the contest to send the game into overtime. 

In the overtime period, the Pilgrims had a pair of quality scoring opportunities as junior Garrett Brazzier and freshman Joe Osaka each put shots on target, but Falcon goaltender Ryan Wysocki was able to turn away both shots to preserve the 2-2 stalemate.

Throughout the contest, New England College held a 36-24 margin in shots, while the Falcons finished 0-for-3 on the power-play. In net, Wysocki stopped 34 shots for Fitchburg State in 65 minutes of action, while sophomore Brett Kilar totaled 22 saves en-route to the complete game effort for the Pilgrims.

Fitchburg State (0-2-1, 0-0-0 MASCAC) will be back in action on next Thursday as it hosts the Panther of Plymouth State at 7 p.m. New England College (0-0-1, 0-0-0 ECAC East) will host UMass Boston on Friday at 7 p.m.
