Fitchburg State Ices Franklin Pierce, 4-1

Lorenzen registers two points on one goal and one assist in Falcons victory

Winchendon, Mass. – 11 different Falcon players registered a point as the Fitchburg State ice hockey team defeated the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University, 4-1 in non-conference action this evening at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.

Fitchburg State took the lead four minutes into the opening period of play as sophomore forward Cameron Snyder connected on his team-leading ninth tally on the season on a pair of assists from juniors John Celli and Max Lorenzen for the 1-0 advantage.

The Falcons doubled their margin (2-0) roughly three minutes later when senior forward Kevin Holmes raced up the right boards and slide a pass over to sophomore Jon Johannesson, who then wristed a shot top self into the back of the net for his second goal on the year.

The Green and Gold upped its lead at the 9:27 mark as senior Sean Loebs one-timed a shot inside the near post for his first score of the season as newcomers Daniel Robertson and Corey Hayashi picked up helpers on the play to make the score 3-0 after 20 minutes of play.

In the middle frame, Franklin Pierce broke its scoring silence at the 6:18 mark when freshman forward Brett Becker collected a pass from senior Brendan Fitzpatrick and deposited the puck into the back of the net for his first collegiate marker to cut the deficit to 3-1 going into the third period.

In the third stanza, Fitchburg State regained its three goal lead just 1:35 into the frame as Lorenzen struck for his third tally of the year, firing a shot into the right side of the net on the power-play. Senior Craig Halpin and classmate Brett Nussbaum assisted on the play, resulting in the 4-1 final.

For the contest, Franklin Pierce held a 34-30 margin in shots, while the Falcons finished 1-for-4 with the man advantage. In net, senior Ryan Wysocki registered 33 saves for Fitchburg State in the complete game effort, while freshman Etienne Roy stopped 23 shots for the Ravens in 50:33 minutes of action.

 Fitchburg State (4-7-2, 0-0-0 MASCAC) returns to action on Thursday as it travels to Plymouth State for a contest starting at 6 p.m. Franklin Pierce (3-10-0, 2-3-0 NE-10) will visit Suffolk University next Saturday at 7 p.m.
