Fitchburg State Falls At Framingham State, 4-1

Loebs nets lone goal for Falcons in MASCAC setback

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Senior forward Ryan McDonald registered three points on three assists as Framingham State defeated Fitchburg State, 4-1 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) ice hockey action at Loring Arena this evening.

Following a scoreless first period, Framingham State opened the scoring at the 6:54 mark of the second frame as freshman forward Keith Barnaby collected a pair of feed from senior Brendan McCarron and McDonald and deposited the puck into the back of the net for his fourth marker of the season for the 1-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.

In the final period of play, the Rams doubled their lead (2-0) just 1:50 into the stanza when newcomer Tyler Colacchio fired a shot inside the near post for his fourth goal of the season on an assist by senior Jay Nicholls.

The hosts upped it advantage at the 4:20 mark as McCarron received a pass from Barnaby and McDonald and wristed a shot into the upper left corner for his ninth score of the season for the 3-0 margin.

Fitchburg State broke its scoring silence two and minutes later when senior forward Sean Loebs blasted a shot into right side of the net for his fourth goal on the season as sophomore Jordan Furlane assisted on the play to make the score 3-1.

Framingham State iced the game with just over two minutes remaining in the contest as junior Ricky O'Connor connected on his eighth tally of the year on feeds from McDonald and junior Richard Hill, resulting in the 4-1 final.

Throughout the contest, Fitchburg State held a 38-27 advantage in shots, while the Rams 1-for-4 on the power-play. Between the pipes, seniors Ryan Wysocki and Dan Finn combined to stop 23 shots the Falcons, while counterpart Alessio Muggli finished with 37 saves for Framingham State in the complete game effort.

Fitchburg State (10-11-2, 8-7-1 MASCAC) returns to action on Saturday as it visits the Vikings of Salem State University for a contest starting at 2 p.m. Framingham State (6-14-2, 5-10-1 MASCAC) will host Plymouth State University on Saturday at 7:40 p.m.
