Fitchburg State Shuts Down Framingham State, 4-0

Celli, Snyder, Johannesson and Fretz net one goal each in Falcons MASCAC victory

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Four different Falcons scored a goal as the Fitchburg State University ice hockey team defeated the Rams of Framingham State University, 4-0 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at the Loring Arena this evening.

Fitchburg State opened the scoring at the 4:49 mark as senior forward John Celli gathered a feed from classmates Ryan Connolly and Max Lorenzen and fired  a shot into the right side of the net for his team-leading tenth marker on the season for the 1-0 margin.

Following a scoreless second frame, the Falcons doubled their lead (2-0 ) just 2:21 into the third period when junior forward Cameron Snyder wristed a shot inside the far post for his sixth goal on the year.

The Green and Gold upped its advantage roughly two and half minutes later as junior forward Jon Johannesson struck for his fourth goal of the season, depositing the puck into the upper left corner for the unassisted tally to make the score 3-0.

Fitchburg State capped the scoring midway through the final stanza when newcomer Michael Fretz received a pass from Snyder and classmate Nick DiNicola and blasted a shot into right side of the net for his tenth score on the season, resulting in the 4-0 final.

Throughout the contest, Framingham State held a slim 34-29 advantage in shots, while both team finished 0-for-4 on the power-play. In goal, freshman Charles Jakobsson stopped all 34 shots he faced for the Falcons in the complete game effort, while counterpart Adam Calabrese posted 25 saves for the Rams in 60 minutes of action.

Fitchburg State (9-10-1; 6-6-1) returns to the ice on Saturday as it hosts the Owls of Westfield State University for Pink On The Rink at 6 p.m. Framingham State (4-14-1, 3-9-1 MASCAC) will host Worcester State University on Saturday at 7:50 p.m.
