Game Preview: Falcons Set To Host Westfield State For "Pink On The Rink"

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State ice hockey will host the Owls of Westfield State University on Saturday, February 6th for the "Pink On The Rink" event in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at the Wallace Civic Center at 6 p.m.

THE FALCONS: Fitchburg State is going for their tenth win of the season, after shutting out Framingham State 4-0 in their last contest. John Celli, Cameron Synder, Jon Johannesson, and Michael Fretz all scored for the Falcons, while Charles Jakobsson picked up his second shutout of the season with a 34 save performance.

On the season, Nick DiNicola has posted a team-leading 23 points on seven scores and 16 assists, while Celli has added ten markers and ten helpers for a total of 20 points. Seniors Ryan Connolly (9 G, 8 A) and Nat Rojas (5G, 12A) round out the top scores for the Falcons with 17 points each.

In net, Jakobsson has seen the bulk of the action, posting 308 saves with a  2.93 goals against average and a .919 save percentage in 550:04 minutes of action.

THE Owls: Kyllian Kirkwood has paced the Owls this season, tallying 18 points on two goals and 16 assists. Dalton Jay (14 G, 3 A) and Colby Daniels (3 G, 14 A) have each put up 17 points on the campaign, while Jackson Leef (7 G, 6 A) and Roman Pfennings (6 G, 7 A) round out the top five with 13 points each.

Leading Westfield State in goal is Jonathan LoParco, who has posted a 3.15 goals against average and a .906 save percentage while starting all 20 games this season for the Owls.

All proceeds from its showdown with the Westfield State Owls will go to fund breast cancer research with the ice being dyed pink, while the players will wear special pink uniforms for the Pink on the Rink event. The pink uniforms from the Fitchburg State game will be auctioned off to raise additional funds after the conclusion of the game.

The Falcons/Owls game will be followed by a showdown between Fitchburg High School and Leominster High. Tickets are $10 for the public and $4 for students with the $10 ticket good for admission to both the Fitchburg State and high school games.
