How It Happened

Colby took an early 1-0 lead just 1:11 into the first period as sophomore Kienan Scott (Spokane, Wash.) found the back of the net for his sixth score of the season. The Mules doubled their advantage at the 5:01 mark when sophomore Phil Klitirinos (Montreal, Que.) took a feed from senior Michael Decker (Algonquin, Mass.) and junior John Rourke (Wellesley, Mass.) for his fourth marker of the season.

Colby tacked on three more tallies in the opening frame senior Cam MacDonald (Westford, Mass.), junior Zack Hale (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Klitirinos to make the score 5-0 after 20 minutes of play.

In the second frame, Fitchburg State broke its scoring silence 8:42 into the period when sophomore Christopher Vicario (Cranston, R.I.) buried a shot into the lower the right corner for his eighth tally on the season off assists from freshman Sascha Figi (Kloten, Switzerland) and sophomore Tyler Warila (Shirley, Mass.) to cut the lead to 5-1.

Colby extended its margin at the 4:31 mark of the final period as Scott deposited the puck into the net for his second tally of the contest before the Falcons capped the scoring when junior Michael Fretz (Seattle, Wash.) received a pass from classmate Ricky Kramer (Barnstead, N.H.) and senior James Gordon (Hingham, Mass.) and slipped a shot into the back of the net for his fourth goal on the year, resulting in the 6-2 final.
