Kramer registers fourth goal of the season in MASCAC setback

Salem, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University ice hockey team dropped a tough 2-1 decision to the Vikings of Salem State University this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at the Rockett Arena.

How It Happened

Following a scoreless first period, Salem State broke the 0-0 stalemate at the 1:22 mark of the second period as freshman Billy McGwin (Rochester, N.Y.) gathered a feed from sophomore Landon Hasenfuss (Hanover, Mass.) and struck for his first collegiate tally for the 1-0 lead.

The Vikings doubled their advantage (2-0) just 53 seconds into the third stanza when junior Callum Hofford (Woodford, Ont.) fired a shot into the back of the net for his first marker of the 2018-19 campaign.

Fitchburg State cut the deficit in half with just over four minutes remaining in regulation as senior Ricky Kramer (Barnstead, N.H.) connected on his fourth score on the year off assists from sophomore Brian Glover (Baldwinville, Mass./) and junior Dean Zerby (Harrisburg, Penn.) to make the score 2-1.

The Green and Gold nearly knotted the score late in the frame when senior Nick DiNicola (Wolcott, Conn.) and Zerby put shots on target, but Viking keeper Oliver Lacroix (Montreal, Que.) denied both opportunities, resulting in the 2-1 final.
