Figi nets second straight hat trick in MASCAC victory

Worcester, Mass. – Sophomore forward Sascha Figi (Kloten, Switzerland) scored with one second remaining in regulation as the Fitchburg State ice hockey team defeated the Lancers of Worcester State University, 3-2 this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at the Worcester Ice Arena.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State grabbed a 1-0 lead just 3:06 into the contest as Figi gathered a feed from senior Ricky Kramer (Barnstead, N.H.) and junior Kyle Hillick (Byfield, Mass.) and found the back of the net for his team-leading 11th tally on the year.

Worcester State knotted the score (1-1) 27 seconds into the second frame when senior Mike Moran (Milford, Mass.) buried a shot into the back of the net for his seventh tally of the season before the Falcons regained the lead at the 6:41 mark as Figi netted his second score of the contest off assists from freshman Jordin Holmes (Willow Grove, Penn.) and junior Christopher Vicario (Cranston, R.I.) for the 2-1 edge.

The Lancers retied the contest (2-2) with just over three minutes remaining in the stanza when sophomore Tim Drevitch (Oxford, N.J.) connected on his first goal of the 2018-19 campaign on as senior Cody Weaver (West Greenwich, R.I.) assisted on the play.

The Green and Gold broke the 2-2 stalemate with one second left in regulation as Figi converted a power-play goal to complete the hat trick to give Fitchburg State the 3-2 victory.
