Falcons Fall to Panthers, 4-1

– The Fitchburg State ice hockey team fell to the Panthers of Plymouth State University, 4-1 this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at the Wallace Civic Center.

How It Happened

Plymouth State grabbed a 1-0 lead just 3:36 into the contest as junior Peter Laviolette (Brentwood, Tenn.) tallied the first goal of the season for the Panthers. The Falcons answered just 33 ticks later when senior Joshua Suboyu (Bradley Beach, NJ) buried a shot into the back of the net. Freshman Rece Bergeman (Newark, Del.) and sophomore Ryan Murphy (Wayzata, Minn.) added helpers on the score. The Panthers broke the deadlock at 5:01 when freshman Myles Abbate (Norwell, Mass.) collected a rebound in front of the net for his first collegiate tally.

Freshman Marcus Seidl (Stockholm, Sweden) gave Plymouth a 3-1 lead, with a shorthanded score, after two frames. And junior Brett Backman (Cos Cob, Conn.) pushed the lead to 4-1 at 12:44 of the third period for the final score. Juniors Brandon Barillaro (Alexandria, Ontario) and Jake Gerbner (Havertown, Penn.) had the assists on the goal.
