Falcons Fly Over Worcester in MASCAC Clash

 

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's ice hockey team skated to a 1-0 victory over the Lancers of Worcester State University this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at the Wallace Civic Center.

The Falcons hosted the second annual ALS game, honoring former Falcon Glenn Roberts. All proceeds from today's contest will help to support the work of the ALS Association, Massachusetts Chapter, and the Glenn Roberts Memorial Scholarship at Fitchburg High School.

How It Happened
The Falcons netted the only goal that they would need on the night in the first frame. Junior Kevin Perry (Hull, Mass.) collected a pass from freshman Anton Metelev (Kirov, Russia) for his fourth goal of the season and a 1-0 advantage.

After a scoreless second intermission, Worcester State turned up the heat in the third intermission out shooting the Falcons 15-8. Worcester had a pair of quality scoring chances midway through the period with back-to-back shots from junior Tim Drevitch (Oxford, NJ) and Will Ahern (Charlestown, Mass.) however junior Brian McGrath (Worcester, Mass.) turned away 37 shots for the shutout and his tenth win of the season.

By the Numbers

  • Worcester State held a 37-26 margin in shots
  • Freshman Hunter Fortin (Westerville, Ohio) had a game-best five shots on goal for the Falcons
  • Fitchburg State finished 0-for-2 with the man advantage, while Worcester State was 0-for-3 on the power-play
  • Nevin Tardif (Dunstable, Mass.) made 25 saves in the loss for the Lancers
