Falcon Duo Sweeps MASCAC Ice Hockey Weekly Accolades

Soderberg tabbed Goaltender/Rookie of the Week; Macchioni named Player of the Week 

Fitchburg, Mass. – Fitchburg State freshman Frederick Soderberg (Harrison Township, MI) and junior Michael Macchioni (North Kingstown, RI) swept this weeks Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Ice Hockey weekly awards as Soderberg was selected MASCAC Goaltender and Rookie of the Week, while Macchioni took home MASCAC Player of the Week honors.

Soderberg picks up his first two weekly accolades after posting 35 saves with an .087 goals against average and a .973 save percentage in the Falcons 2-1 overtime victory over the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth in semifinal round action of the 2023-24 MASCAC Tournament on Saturday.

Macchioni also earned his first weekly honor on the season after netting one goal with the game winning, over time tally for the Green and Gold in a 2-1 triumph against the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth on Saturday.

The Falcons (15-9-2, 13-6-2 MASCAC) return to action on Saturday as they travel to Plymouth State to take on the top seeded Panthers for the MASCAC Championship, starting at 6:00 PM.
