Ice Hockey Drops Non-Conference Decision To Yellow Jackets

Soderberg stops 25 shots for Green & Gold

Boston, Mass. The Fitchburg State ice hockey team suffered a tough 2-0 setback to the 15th ranked Yellow Jackets of Wisconsin Superior this afternoon in opening round action of the 59th annual Codfish Bowl, hosted by UMass Boston at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 0, Wisconsin Superior 2

Records: Fitchburg State (7-3-0, 4-1-0 MASCAC) I Wisconsin Superior (9-3-1, 5-1-0 WIAC)

How It Happened

Following a scoreless first period of play, Wisconsin Superior grabbed the lead 8:30 into the middle stanza as freshman Logan Nickerson (East Haddam, CT) settled a feed from classmates Alexey Yarmulnik (Old Bridge, NJ) and Blake Setter (Calgary, ALB) and deposited a shot inside the near post for his second tally of the season for the 1-0 edge.

Fitchburg State threatened midway through the stanza when sophomore Hunter Dunn (Douglas, MA) put a shot on target, but Yellow Jackets goaltender Jan Skorpik (Brandy's and Labern, Czechia) turned the shot aside to preserve the 1-0 advantage.

In the third period of play, the Yellow Jackets secured the victory with just over four minutes remaining in regulation with newcomer Ikki Kogawa (Chiba, Japan) receiving a pass from junior Colin Pederson (Owatonna, MN) and finding the back of the net for his third tally of the 2024-25 campaign, resulting in the 2-0 final.
