Bio

Tom Patty enters his fourth season with the Fitchburg State Ice Hockey team after joining the Falcons’ hockey coaching staff in 2016-17, he was elevated to associate head coach in the summer of 2020.

He grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts, and attended Springfield Central High School in Springfield, Massachusetts from 1991-1994. Patty then transferred to the Williston Northampton School in Easthampton, Massachusetts and graduated in 1996. He was a three-varsity sport athlete at Williston Northampton playing soccer, hockey and lacrosse.

Patty went on to attend American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts and graduated in 2001 with a degree in Secondary Education, Liberal Studies with a strong focus in Mathematics. While at AIC, he played hockey as a goaltender for four seasons as well as lacrosse as a midfielder for four seasons.

After college, Patty spent the years 2001-2003 playing professional hockey in three different countries (Czech Republic, Slovakia and the US) with eight different teams.

He recently graduated in December of 2018 from Fitchburg State, with a Master of Education in Curriculum and Teaching.

Patty started his coaching career at Monadnock Regional High School in Swanzey, New Hampshire as an assistant coach where he helped lead them to the New Hampshire Division III State Championship.

Patty then started working for The Winchendon School in Winchendon, Massachusetts as a Math teacher, varsity hockey coach, varsity lacrosse coach and as the associate director of athletics. He worked there for 11 years, wearing many different hats. Overall, between playing and coaching, Patty has been involved in the game of hockey for over three decades.

He has been working full-time as an 8th grade mathematics teacher at Sky View Middle School in Leominster, Massachusetts since the fall of 2014.

 

Patty resides in Ashburnham, Massachusetts with his wife Veronika and children Nola and Finn.
