Ferrara Named To NSCAA All-Scholar Third Team

Billerica, Mass. native collects All-East Region Scholar Athlete honor

FITCHBURG, Mass. (January 7, 2009) - Fitchburg State senior defensemen Marco Ferrara (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) was named to the 2008 Adidas Scholar All-East Region third team as selected by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Ferrara became the only Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) member to earn the Scholar All-East Region accolade after posting a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 while majoring in Business at Fitchburg State College. This season, Ferrara started all 17 games for the Falcons, while serving as team captain and the anchor of the defensive line.

Throughout his career, Ferrara has served as a four-year starter for Fitchburg State, appearing in 61 games, while starting 54. During a solid sophomore campaign, Ferrara ranked fourth on the team in scoring with three points on three assists. He collected his first collegiate point against Newbury College as he set up the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over the Nighthawks (9/16).

The Fitchburg State men's soccer team concluded its season with an overall record of 4-12-1, while posting a 0-6-1 mark in the MASCAC.
