Framingham States Rolls Past Fitchburg State, 8-3

Connelly nets a pair in Falcons final regular season contest

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (November 1, 2008) - The Fitchburg State men's soccer team suffered a tough 8-3 setback to Framingham State College in Massachusetts State Colleges Athletic Conference action this afternoon.

Senior Jude Connelly (Harvard, Mass./Bromfield School) led the Fitchburg State attack with two goals in the contest, while classmate David Tyler (Hubbardston, Mass./Quabbin Regional) netted one score. Sophomore Lionso Ventura (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont) chipped in with one assist.

Framingham State sophomore Jason Silva (Milford, Mass./Milford) led all scorers with a game-high seven points on three goals and one assist, while senior Jonathas Goncalves (Framingham, Mass./Keefe Tech) contributed five points with two scores and one helper. Junior Jared Curry (Westborough, Mass./St. John's) was also solid with a goal and two assists.

Framingham State opened the scoring just 4:36 into the game on Curry's first score of the contest off an assist from Silva. The Rams then rallied off three more scores in the next six minutes to take a commanding 4-0 lead. Fitchburg State fought back moments later as Tyler tallied his sixth goal of the season. Connelly followed with his first score of the year at the 22 minute mark, but the Rams added one more score to take a 6-2 lead at the half.

In the second frame, Framingham State continued its offensive momentum with two consecutive scores by Goncalves and sophomore Joel Kayima (Malden, Mass./Malden) before Connelly blasted his second score of the match off a dish from Ventura.

Framingham State out-shot Fitchburg State 24-14, with a slight 5-4 edge in corners. Junior goaltender Matt Carey (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) collected six saves in net for the Falcons, while sophomore goalkeeper Greg Halle (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) earned with win for the Rams with five stops.

Fitchburg State concludes its season with an overall record of 4-12-1 and a 0-6-1 mark in the MASCAC. Framingham State finishes the regular season with a 14-3-1 record, 6-0-1 in the MASCAC, awaits its MASCAC Tournament berth.
