Men’s Soccer Earns Three All-Conference Awards

Shea named to All-Conference first team; Martinez, Hanratty earn second team honors

FITCHBURG, Mass. (November 6, 2013) – The Fitchburg State men’s soccer team named three players to the 2013 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) All-Conference Team as announced by the league office on Wednesday morning.

​Senior Colin Shea (Hanover, Mass.) led the way for the Fitchburg State men’s soccer team, posting All-Conference first team honors, while freshman Steven Martinez (Middlesex, N.J.) and junior Aidan Hanratty (E. Bridgewater, Mass.) were both named to the All-Conference second team.

On the season, Shea led a sting Fitchburg State defense, appearing in all 19 contest. The four-year defender played a crucial role in Fitchburg State’s conference leading, 0.78 goals against average as the Falcons have limited opponents to only 16 goals all year.

Martinez also played a vital role on the Falcons squad this season, appearing in all 19 games during his rookie campaign. Martinez ranked second on the team in scoring this year, totaling seven points with three goals and one assist. The freshman midfielder recorded his first collegiate goal in a 4-0 victory over Becker College.

Rounding out the list of award winners was junior goalkeeper Aidan Hanratty, who witnessed a break out season for the Falcons. This season, Hanratty ranked first in the MASCAC with a minimal 0.59 goals against average while posting 101 saves over 1527 minutes played. As of last week, his .918 save percentage ranked fourth in the nation among Division III players, while his 0.59 GAA was good for 12th overall.

The Fitchburg State men’s soccer team recently concluded its 2013 season with an overall record of 6-8-5 and a 1-2-4 clip in the MASCAC.
