Fitchburg State Ties With Framingham State, 1-1 (2 OT)

Hanratty's streak ends at 1,020 minutes in MASCAC draw with Rams

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (October 19, 2013) – The Fitchburg State University men's soccer team battled Framingham State University to a 1-1 double overtime draw this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's soccer action at Maple Street Field.

The Rams are now 4-10-1 on the season and 2-2-1 in the conference, while the Falcons move to 6-4-5 overall and 1-0-4 in the MASCAC.

Fitchburg State goalkeeper Aidan Hanratty (East Bridgewater, Mass.) entered the game with a 975 minute shutout streak going and he tacked 45 minutes on to that total as he held the Rams scoreless in the first half.

The Rams ended Hanratty's streak in the opening minute of the second half when junior Bryan DaSilva (Milford, Mass.) was able to beat Hanratty with a penalty kick giving the Rams a 1-0 lead.  Hanratty's shutout streak ended at 1,020 minutes.

The Rams would maintain the one goal advantage until the 64th minute when freshman Steven Martinez (Middlesex, NJ) fired a shot in the top corner that sailed right over the FSU net minder tying the game at 1-1.

The Rams had a pair of opportunities to break the deadlock in the closing minute of the second overtime, but shots by junior Nicholas Cotter (Sandwich, Mass.) and Maycon Malta (Milford, Mass.) were off target.

Framingham State held a slim 14-11 edge in shots and a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.  Hanratty finished the game with three saves, while junior Kiko Anzoategui (Peabody, Mass.) made four for the Rams.

Fitchburg State will be back in action on Saturday as visits Salem State at 2:30 p.m.
