Falcons Soar Past Raiders in Men’s Soccer, 2-1

 

 Fitchburg, Mass. –Fitchburg State University men's soccer team soared to a 2-1 decision over  the visiting Raiders of Rivier University in non-conference men's soccer action on Tuesday evening at Elliot Field.

 How It Happened

Falcons opened the scoring twelve minutes into the contest when freshman Shane Grenier (Gardner, Mass.), streaking down the right sideline, threaded a crossing pass to sophomore Hassan Koroma (Millbury, Mass.) for his first goal of the season. Rivier capitalized on an own goal to tie the game at 1-all at the end of the first frame.

Fitchburg State University regained the lead in the second half as Yannick DePina (Boston, Mass.)  notched his third goal of the season, with an assist from Ibrahima Male (Pawtucket, RI), who had headed a deep ball to the streaking striker.

Fitchburg State University held the advantage in shots (15-2) and corners (10-2).


Freshman Branton Abbett (Jasper, Ind.) earned his second win of the season.

12th meeting between two schools on the pitch with the Falcons 6-6-0 when taking on the Raiders.

Falcons have won last four match ups against the Raiders.
