Falcons, Bears Play to a Draw, 2-2

Young Notches First of the Year

 

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's soccer team tied the Bears of Bridgewater State University 2-2 on Saturday evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Alumni Field.

How It Happened

In the first half, the red and white seized control on the offensive end, potting the first goal of the game when junior Filipe Gomes (Fogo, Cape Verde) slipped past the Falcons defense for his fourth score of the season in the 37th minute.

The Bears doubled the lead, just a minute after intermission. Freshman Kevin Roberts (Medway, Mass.) tucked his third goal of the season in the top right corner after Kane Moran (Perth, Australia) found him streaking down the left wing.

The Falcons' cut the lead in half with an own goal at 51:27 and tied the game ten minute later when senior Zachary Young (Capo Beach, Calif.)  picked the pocket of the Bears defender for his first goal of the season.

Bridgewater had the best chance of the overtimes when Gomes split the defense and had a hard low shot that Alex Al-Zaibak (Hingham, Mass.) made a diving play for the stop.

Inside the Numbers

Bridgewater held the advantage in both shots (23-10) and corners (5-1).

Falcons' netminder Al-Zaibak had five saves while Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) made four for the Bears.

41st meeting between two schools on the pitch with the Falcons 12-22-6 when taking on the Bears.

Two schools have split the previous four meetings.

The Falcons travel to Nichols College on Wednesday afternoon for a 4:00 PM non-conference game, while Bridgewater hosts Roger Williams at 7:00PM on Tuesday evening.
