Fitchburg, Mass. – A pair of goals from freshman Mayele Malango paced the Vikings of Salem State University past the Fitchburg State University men's soccer team, 2-1 Saturday afternoon in Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Alumni Field.

How It Happened

The Falcons opened the scoring when senior Jared Burns (East Bridgewater, Mass.) tipped the twine nine minutes into the contest as he deposited a crossing pass from sophomore Daniel Parker (Lake Forest, Calif.) top shelf for his second goal of the season.

Salem evened the score midway through the frame, when freshman Mayele Malango (Lowell, Mass.) rambled through the Falcons defense for an unassisted tally.

The Vikings broke the stalemate in the 73rd minute. Sophomore Grace Dos Santos (Brockton, Mass.) threaded a pass through the box to Malango for his 12th goal of the season.

Inside the Numbers

Salem State held the edge in shots (18-11) and corners (5-4).

Goalkeeper Alex Al-Zaibak (Hingham, Mass.) made six saves in the loss, while senior Greg Enos (Peabody, Mass.) posted four saves for his first win of the season.
