Al-Zaibak registers nine saves for Falcons in MASCAC setback 

Westfield, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Owls of Westfield State University this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Alumni Field.

How It Happened

Following a scoreless first half, Westfield State broke the 0-0 stalemate in the 47th minute of play as freshman forward Paul Soucy (Acushnet, Mass.) collected a corner kick off the foot of senior Kyle Mutti (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and found the back of the net for his collegiate marker for the 1-0 lead.

The Owls doubled their advantage (2-0) with just over two minutes left in the contest when junior Legend Mu'Min (Springfield, Mass.) received a pass from senior Connor Gilbert (Melrose, Mass.) and fired a shot into the right side of the net for his team-leading sixth tally on the season.

The hosts capped the scoring at the 90:00 minute mark as Gilbert blasted a free kick from the top of the scoring box into the upper left corner for his first score of the 2017 campaign, resulting in the 3-0 final.

Westfield State has won the last three contests against Fitchburg State, while the Green and Gold have won three of the previous five matchups with the Owls.

In goal, Fitchburg State senior Alex Al-Zaibak (Hingham, Mass.) made nine saves in the complete game effort, while counterpart Alex Kramer (West Springfield) stopped four shots for Westfield State, en-route to his fourth clean sheet of the season.

Westfield State held a 26-10 edge in shots, while also finishing with a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks.
