Nagle notches first collegiate tally in MASCAC victory

Buzzards Bay, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's soccer team defeated the Buccaneers of Mass. Maritime Academy, 2-0 this morning in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Clean Harbors Stadium.

How It Happened

Following a scoreless first half, Fitchburg State broke a 0-0 stalemate in the 60th minute of action as senior Stephen Nagle (Lancaster, Mass./Nashoba Regional) connected on his first collegiate tally for the 1-0 advantage.

The Falcons doubled their lead (2-0) at the 62:39 mark when sophomore Yannick DePina (Boston, Mass./Madison Park) settled a feed from junior Larry Janvier (Milton, Mass./Milton) and put a buried a shot into the upper left corner for his team-leading fourth tally of the 2018 campaign, resulting in the 2-0 final.

Inside the Numbers

This morning's contest with mark the 42nd meeting between the two squads on the soccer field with the Falcons currently 24-11-7 all-time when taking on the Buccaneers.

Mass. Maritime had won two of the previous three matchups against Fitchburg State, including a 1-0 decision last season at Elliot Field.

Senior Brandon Gawron (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) led Mass. Maritime in shot with five in the contest.

In goal, sophomore Branton Abbett (Jasper Ind./Jasper) stopped eight shots for the Falcons to earn the clean sheet, while freshman Mitch Hardy (Pepperell, Mass./Groton-Dunstable) made six saves for the Buccaneers in the complete game effort
