
Falcons Nipped By Bison, 3-2
Bastien and Javaloyes net one goal each in non-conference setback
Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's soccer team dropped a tough 3-2 decision to the Bison of Nichols College this afternoon in non-conference action from Elliot Field.

How It Happened
Fitchburg State took the lead 23:18 mark as junior Marckdonard Bastien (Worcester, Mass./Worcester North) took a feed from classmate Larry Janvier (Milton, Mass./Curry College) and deposited the ball inside the far post for his first score of the season for the 1-0 advantage.
Nichols knotted the score (1-1) one minute later when sophomore Ali Ali (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) connected on his fourth marker on the year. The Bison grabbed the lead in the 28th minute of action as newcomer Evan Lemoine (Rutland, Mass./Wachusett Regional) settled a corner kick off the foot of Jonathan Ingram (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown) and headed the ball into the upper right corner of the net for his fifth goal of the 2018 campaign to make the score 2-1 going into the break.
Following the intermission, the Falcons knotted the score (2-2) when freshman John Javaloyes (Newton, Mass./Newton South) slipped a shot inside the near post for his third goal of the season. Nichols responded 21 seconds later as freshman Ryan Mangan (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) received a pass from Lemoine and proceeded to find the back of the net for his second marker on the year to give the Bison a 3-2 edge.
Inside the Numbers
This afternoon's contest will mark the 19th meeting between the two teams on the pitch with the Falcons 10-5-4 all-time when taking on the Bison.
Two teams had spilt the last three matchups (1-1-1). With the two squads playing to a 2-2 double overtime draw last season at Vendetti Field.
Nichols finished with a 20-4 advantage in shots, while also holding a 6-1 margin in corner kicks.
Senior Gregory Giglio (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) posted a game-best six shots for Nichols College.
In goal, sophomore Sebastian Jaramillo (Dracut, Mass./Assumption College) made five for the Falcons in the setback, while junior Juan Carlos De La Cruz (Stamford, Conn./Trinity Pawling) stopped one shot for the Bison en-route to his second win of the season.
