Mason stops one shot in collegiate debut

Nashua, N.H. – The Fitchburg State University men's soccer team returned to action this evening, playing Rivier University to a 0-0 double overtime stalemate in non-conference action at Raider Field.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 0, Rivier 0

Records: Fitchburg State (5-7-1) | Rivier (0-12-3)

How It Happened

Fitchburg State nearly took the lead early in the first half as junior forward Malachi Appiah (Worcester, Mass./Worcester North) and classmate Larry Janvier (Milton, Mass./Milton) put back-to-back shots on frame, but Rivier netminder Nicholas Hasenfus (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) turned aside both shots to preserve the 0-0 stalemate going into the break..

Following the intermission, the Falcons continued the offensive pressure with freshman Clayton Mendes-Rodrigues (Brockton, Mass./Quincy) and sophomore Richmond Antwi (Worcester, Mass./Burncoat) registering shots on frame only to have Hasenfus come up big for the Raiders again to set the game into overtime.

In the overtime period, the Green and Gold had the best scoring opportunity as junior Marckdonard Bastien (Worcester, Mass./Worcester North) fired a shot, but Hasenfus was able to corral the shot, resulting in the 0-0 double overtime draw.
