Daramy notches first collegiate goal for Green and Gold

Fitchburg, MA – The Fitchburg State University Men's Soccer Team dropped a 3-1 decision to the Anchormen of Rhode Island College this morning in non-conference action from Elliot Field.

How It Happened

Rhode Island College opened the scoring in the eighth minute of action as junior Jesus Guarcas (Providence, RI) converted a penalty kick for his first tally on the season for the 1-0 edge. Fitchburg State knotted the score at 1-1 midway through the frame when sophomore Edwin Daramy (Fitchburg, MA) blasted a free kick from 20 yard out into the upper right corner for his first collegiate tally.

The Anchormen regained the lead at the 28:14 mark with junior Anthony Recinos (Providence, RI) colleting a feed from graduate student Jonathan Oliveira (Providence, RI) and found the back of the net for his second marker of the 2023 campaign to make the score 2-1.

The visitors pushed the lead to 3-1 two minute later when graduate student Braeden Cannon (Cranston, RI) redirected a shot off the foot of freshman Donovan Battle (Hudson, MA) into the lower right corner for his first score of the season.

Following the intermission, Rhode Island College threatened in the 54th minute as Oliveira put a shot on frame, but Fitchburg State defender Joshua Atemkeng (Peabody, MA) made a team save to keep the score at 3-1.

The Falcons best scoring opportunity occurred with seven minutes remaining in the contest with senior Brandt St. Gelais (Melrose, NY) fired a pair of shots on target, but Anchormen keeper Wesley Perrotto (Pembroke, MA) denied both shots, resulting in the 3-1 final.
