Desrochers Tabbed MASCAC Field Athlete Of The Week

Dracut, Mass. native earns POW honors after first place finish in the weight toss

FITCHBURG, Mass. (January 28, 2013) – Senior Zach Desrochers (Dracut, Mass./Greater Lowell Tech) was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office Sunday afternoon.

Desrochers earned his MASCAC weekly honor after leading the Fitchburg State men’s indoor track and field team at the 2013 Co-Ed Invite hosted by MIT. The senior thrower took top honors in the 35 pound weight toss with a toss of 28.19 meters, which is now ranked seventh in the nation among Division Three schools. Desrochers also competed in the shot put, placing fifth in the event with a throw of 12.28m.

The men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams return to action on Saturday as they compete at the 2013 Tufts Stampede hosted by Tufts University starting at 11 a.m.
