Falcons Fly At DIII New England Championships

McClure paces Fitchburg State at Springfield College; Kibler shines at MIT

FITCHBURG, Mass. (February 22, 2014) – Members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams were in action this weekend as they competed in the DIII New England Championships. The Falcons men’s team traveled to MIT, while the women visited the Springfield College.

For the men, graduate student Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine) stole the show, placing third overall in the mile with an ECAC and Open New England qualifying time of 4:13.71, while junior Jim Quinlan (N. Andover, Mass.) also collected DIII NE accolades in the 1000 meter with an eighth place time of 2:38.69.

Freshman Brian Amaral (Tewksbury, Mass.) put forth a solid ECAC qualifying time of 8:48.62 in the 3000 meter (9th), while senior Pat Conaty (Southington, Conn.) finished ninth overall in the pole vault with a vault of 4.25 meters.

The men’s 4x800m relay team of newcomer Brandon Hannon (Pelham, N.H.), classmate Matt Cuomo (Carlisle, Mass.), Quinlan and Kibler turned in season-best time of 8:18.68 to round out the top Falcon efforts for the men.

The Fitchburg State women had four members and a relay compete at the DIII New England Championships with junior Rebecca McClure (Lyndeborogh, N.H.) leading the way. McClure earned the top finish for the Falcons, placing sixth overall in the pole vault with a height of 3.30 meters to pace the women’s squad.

The Falcons 4x800 relay team of junior Braila Roy (Hyannis, Mass.), freshman Kelly McCarthy (Assonet, Mass.) and seniors Karollynn Wickless-Adams (Lansdale, Penn.) and Samantha Wilkinson (Wakefield, Mass.) posted a time of 10:42.03, while Wilkinson added a 20th place finish in the 600 meter with a time of 1:44.27.

Junior Arthina Robert (Lynn, Mass.) wrapped up the top performers on the women’s side, placing 17th overall in the 60 meter dash, turning in a solid time of 8.04 seconds.

Members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams will be in action next weekend as they compete at the All-New England Championships beginning Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
