Fitchburg State Soars At ECAC Championships

Kibler earns top honors in the mile to pace men; McClure leads women with 24th place effort in the pole vault

DORCESTER, Mass. (March 15, 2014) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams were in action over the weekend as they competed at the 2014 ECAC Championships hosted by Northeastern University at the Reggie Lewis Track and Field Center.

Graduate student Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine) paced the men, earning top honors in the mile with a time of 4:16.33. Kibler is currently ranked eighth in the country (4:07.29) among all Division III schools and has qualified for the NCAA DIII Championships to be hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan University on March 14th.

Junior Jim Quinlan (N. Andover, Mass.) put forth a 21st place showing in the 1000 meter with a time of 2:35.48, while newcomer Brian Amaral (Tewksbury, Mass.) was also strong in the 3000m, placing 24th overall with a time of 9:17.22.

The 4x800 meter relay team of Kibler, Quinlan, freshman Matt Cuomo (Carlisle, Mass.) and classmate Brandon Hannon (Pelham, N.H.) closed out the top Falcon performances for the men’s squad, turning in a solid time of 8:08.92 to finish ninth overall.

For the ladies, junior Rebecca McClure (Lyndeborough, N.H.) led the way, placing 24th overall in the pole vault with a vault of 3.23 meters, while senior Samantha Wilkinson (Wakefield, Mass.) turned in a solid time of 1:22.81 in the 500 meter (28th).

Junior Jenae Harrison (Sioux Falls, S.D.) was also strong in the 800 meter (25th), registering a strong time of 2:22.62, while classmate Arthina Robert (Lynn, Mass.) rounded out the top Falcon efforts for the women in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.14 seconds.

Select members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams await their selection to the NCAA Championships on March 14th.
