Kibler Headed to NCAA Division III Championships

Bath, Maine native ranked eighth among nation’s top distance runners

FITCHBURG, Mass. (March 10, 2014) – Graduate student Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine) will represent Fitchburg State University this week at the 2014 NCAA Track & Field Division III National Championships hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan University on March 14th and 15th.

Kibler currently ranks eighth among all Division III schools in the mile, collecting his first trip to the big dance after witnessing a stellar 2013-14 campaign. Chris earned a trip the NCAA Division III National Championships after registering an outstanding time at the All-New England Championships hosted by Boston University in late February. Kibler set his NCAA qualifying time in the event with a school record time of 4:07.29, while earning top honors in the mile.

In addition to his national accolades, Chris also fared well at a pair of post-season events. At the MASCAC/Alliance Championships, Kibler registered a pair of top three efforts, earning top honors in the 5000 meter with an Alliance Meet record time of 15:46.55, while placing third overall in mile (4:29.59). Chris rounded out his post-season performances at the ECAC Championships, collecting top honors in the mile with a time of 4:16.33 this past weekend.  

For each women’s individual event including the pentathlon, the top 17 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition, while for each men’s individual event including the heptathlon, the top 15 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 12 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted in the competition.

The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams concluded their seasons this past weekend as members of the squads competed at the ECAC Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track and Field Center hosted by Northeastern University.
