Fitchburg State Visits Tufts Stampede

Kibler paces men with second place effort in the mile; Robert leads women with ECAC qualifying time in the 60m dash

MEDFORD, Mass. (February 1, 2014) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams were in action this afternoon as they competed at 2014 Tufts Stampede hosted by Tufts University at the Gantcher Center.

For the men, graduate student Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine) ran extremely well, placing second overall in the mile with an Open NE qualifying time of 4:16.60, while adding a seventh place finish in the 800m with a MASCAC qualifying time of 2:01.71. Freshman Brian Amaral (Tewksbury, Mass.) was also solid, qualifying for the MASCAC’s in both the 1000m (2:46.18) and the 3000 meter (8:51.12).  

Senior Pat Conaty (Southington, Conn.) placed third overall in the pole vault with a DIII NE qualifying vault of 4.30 meters, while freshman Patryk Backiel (Fairhaven, Mass.) was equally impressive in the pole vault, finishing fourth with a MASCAC and DIII NE qualifying mark of 4.30 meters as well.

On the track, freshman Trent Garlington (Holbrook, Mass.) put forth a solid effort in the 60 meter dash with a MASCAC qualifying time of 7.40 to place seventh overall, while sophomore Charles De La Rosa (Westfield, Mass.) also qualified for the MASCAC’s in the 60m with a time of 7.47 seconds.

In the 800m, junior Jim Quinlan (North Andover, Mass.) (2:01.96), freshman Brandon Hannon (Pelham, N.H) (2:03.56) and classmate Matthew Cuomo (Carlisle, Mass.) (2:04.30) each qualified for MASCAC’s, while junior Maximin Rocheleau (Winchendon, Mass.), newcomer Nicholas Levenson (Canton, Mass.) and sophomore Daniel Fitzpatrick (Framingham, Mass.) registered post-season qualifying times of 55.35, 55.15 and 55.64 in the 400 meter respectively.

The 4x200 meter relay team of De La Rosa, Levenson, Garlington and Rocheleau ran well, posting a MASCAC qualifying time of 1:27.85, while Levenson added a MASCAC qualifying jump of 5.75 meters in the long jump.

In the field, sophomore Ben Bottrell (Malden, Mass.) posted a third place effort of 1.83 meters in the high jump, while classmate Zachary Cash (Waterford, Conn.) registered a personal best toss of 9.29 meters in the weight throw to round out the top Falcon efforts of the men.

On the women’s side, junior Arthina Robert (Lynn, Mass.) continued her outstanding running, placing fifth overall in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.96, with her time in the 60m dash Arthina currently ranks second in the northeast and 23rd nationally among all NCAA DIII school, while junior Mary Wooten (Lisbon, Maine) registered a personal best and MASCAC qualifying time of 11.49 in the 60 meter hurdles.

Sophomore Jessica Mangan (Everett, Mass.) put forth a PR time of 12:45.15 in 3000 meter, while adding her second personal best of the afternoon with time of 3:53.87 in the 1000m to qualify for the MASCAC’s in both events, while junior Jenae Harrison (Sioux Falls, S.D.) posted a strong time of 5:42.11 in the mile.

Freshman Grace Morrissey (Millis, Mass.) was also solid, notching a post-season qualifying time of 3:58.74 in 1000m, while the 4x200 meter relay team of junior Rebecca McClure (Lyndeborogh, N.H.), Wooten, sophomore Shamira Nambafu (Framingham, Mass.) and senior Stephanie Irvin (Malden, Mass.) ran a season best time of 1:58.98 to place fifth overall.

In the field, junior Sarah Elliot (E. Meadow, N.Y.) posted a personal best toss of 11.33 meters in the weight throw, while freshman Morgan Steele (Somerset, Mass.) was also solid in the weight throw, registering a PR toss of 11.32m to round out the top Falcon efforts for the ladies.

The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams return to action next Saturday as they visit MIT for a meet starting at 11:00 a.m.
