Fitchburg State Excels at Tufts Stampede

Falcons finish fifth in team standings as Sattiewhite takes victory in the high jump

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's indoor track and field team took part in the Tufts Stampede hosted by Tufts University at the Gantcher Center this afternoon, finishing fifth with a total of 67.5 points.

In the high jump, sophomore Ben Sattiewhite continued his impressive season by winning the event with a jump of 1.98m to qualify for ECAC's, while fellow sophomore Chavinskee Milcent also put forth a strong effort in the event, placing third with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 1.88m. In addition, Milcent came fourth in the 60 meter hurdles with a MASCAC qualifying time of 9.26 seconds.

Freshman Cameron Stalters had a strong showing in multiple events as well, as he finished second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.84 seconds, while posting a height of 3.20 meters in the pole vault, meeting the MASCAC qualifying standards in both events.

In the pole vault, sophomore Timothy Breen posted a MASCAC and DIII NE qualifying mark of 4.10m, good enough for sixth in the event.

In the long jump, sophomore Kevin McDonald took eighth in the event, with a personal best jump and MASCAC qualifying mark of 6.04m, while Conor Flynn took 11th with a post-season qualifying mark of 5.89m.

On the track, sophomore Jake Hastings took third in the mile, posting a MASCAC and DIII NE qualifying time of 4:23.88, while also achieving a MASCAC qualifying time of 2:40.64 in the 1000m, en route to a seventh place finish.

The Falcons had three finishers in the top ten in both the 800m and 5000m events. In the 800m, juniors Chauncey Beatty (2:01.42) and Matthew Cuomo (2:03.35), and senior Richard Ethier, IV (2:05.21) took third, seventh, and tenth respectively, while junior Brian Amaral (15:53.22), and freshmen Anthony Darrigo (15:58.10) and Joseph Darrigo (16:05.68) took sixth through eighth in the 5000m to all qualifying for the MASCAC/Alliance Championships.

Rounding out the top performers for the Green and Gold were senior Timothy Allen, who took 11th place in the 3000m with a MASCAC qualifying time of 9:40.10, while freshman Austin Landress posted a solid eighth place finish in the 600m with a postseason qualifying time of 1:29.01.

The Fitchburg State men's indoor track and field team will be back in action on Saturday, February 6th, as it competes in the Wesleyan Indoor Invitational II, hosted by Wesleyan University at 10 a.m.
