Fitchburg State Takes On Wesleyan Invitational

Milicent wins high jump as Falcons tune up for next week's MASCAC championships

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Fitchburg State men's indoor track and field team was in action this afternoon at the Wesleyan University Invitational II, in preparation for next week's MASCAC/Alliance Championships

Sophomore Chavinskee Milcent had another strong week, winning the high jump with a MASCAC and DIII NE qualifying height of 1.92m, while using a MASCAC qualifying jump of 6.30m to take fourth place in the long jump.

Also punching tickets to the MASCAC championships in the long jump were senior Akhiel Willis (5.87m; seventh), freshman Conor Flynn (5.74m; tenth), and junior Nicholas Levenson (5.44m; 14th), with Levenson also qualifying for MASCAC's in the 200m with a 12th place finish of 23.90.

Also qualifying for the MASCAC's in multiple field events were sophomore Joseph Bernardini and freshman Cameron Stalters. Bernardini took ninth in the shot put with a mark of 11.70m, and 16th in the weight throw with a distance of 10.97m; while Stallings finished sixth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.22 seconds, while claiming tenth in the pole vault with a height of 3.15 meters.

Also of note in the shot put was freshman Brendon Courtney, who took eleventh place with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 11.37m.

On the track, sophomore Jake Hastings took second in the 1000m, with a personal best of 2:40.02. Posting MASCAC qualifying times in the 1000m along with Hastings were sophomore Daniel Fournier (2:51.21; sixth), senior Michael Martin (2:54.75; ninth), and junior Matthew Cuomo (2:57.04; tenth).

Taking second in the mile was freshman Anthony Darrigo, posting a time of 4:40.62, while Cuomo came fourth with a time of 4:44.79, and freshman Joseph Darrigo claimed ninth place with a time of 4:50.83. All three runners qualified for the MASCAC's with their times.

The Falcons also found success in the 600m, as junior Chauncey Beatty finished second with a MASCAC and DIII NE qualifying time of 1:24.59, while senior Richard Ethier, IV and freshman Austin Landress took third and tenth with MASCAC qualifying times of 1:25.73 and 1:28.53. 

Others qualifying for the MASCAC championships were junior Brian Amaral in the 3000m (9:08.29; third), freshman Daniel Nkansah (24.10; 17th) in the 200m, and junior Brandon Hannon (2:08.49; 10th) and sophomore Joseph Chamberlin (2:14.45; 17th) in the 800m.

Selected members of the Fitchburg State men's indoor track and field team will be back in action on February 13tth, as they travel to Plymouth State University to compete at the MASCAC/Alliance Championships, starting at 11 a.m.
