Fitchburg State Opens At UMass Boston Indoor Track Invite

Sattiewhite paces Falcons, earning top honors in the high jump with an Open NE qualifying mark of 2.05m

BOSTON, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's indoor track and field team opened its 2016-17 season, competing in the 5th annual UMass Boston Indoor Open on Saturday afternoon at the Reggie Lewis Track & Field Center.

Senior Ben Sattiewhite led the way for the Falcons, placing first overall in the high jump with a MASCAC, DIII NE, ECAC and Open New England qualifying mark of 2.05m, while classmate Jake Hastings notched a DIII NE time of 15:21.05 in the 5000m with a third place effort.

Senior Chauncey Beatty was also solid for the Falcons, turning in a third place finish in the 500m with time of 1:08.51, while sophomore Cameron Stalters registered a DIII New England qualifying time of 8.64 seconds with a second place finish in the 60m hurdles.

On the track, junior Brian Amaral (9th), sophomore Anthony Darrigo (18th) and classmate Joseph Darrigo (20th) qualified for MASCAC's in the 5000m with times of 15:32.66, 16:13.45 and 16:19.80 respectively, while junior Connor Flynn registered a MASCAC qualifying mark of 6.30m with a fourth place finish in the long jump.

Hastings added a MASCAC qualifying time of 55.13 seconds in the 200 meter, while senior Brandon Hannon placed 18th overall in the 800 with a post-season qualifying time of 2:13.80. Sophomore Wilkerson Pierre was also solid for the Falcons, turning in an 11th place finish in the triple jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 11.93m.

In the field, junior Joseph Bernardini (11.56m) and sophomore Brendon Courtney (11.49) placed 15th and 17th respectively in the shot put to qualify for MASCAC's, while in the weight throw, freshman Kyle Nelson (13th) and Courtney (19th) added post-season qualifying tosses of 12.70m and 11.49m to round out the top Falcon efforts on the day..

The Fitchburg State men's indoor track team will be back in action on Friday as they compete in the 2016-17 Plymouth State Winter Classic at 1 p.m.
