Fitchburg State Places Third At The 2016 PSU Winter Classic

Sattiewhite takes top honors in the high jump with an Open NE qualifying mark of 1.99m

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Fitchburg State men's indoor track and field team placed third at the  2016 Plymouth State University Winter Classic this afternoon with a total of 90 points.

Senior Ben Sattiewhite paced the Falcons, taking top honors in the high jump with an Open New England qualifying mark of 1.99 meters, while sophomore Cameron Stalters posted a DIII New England qualifying time of 8.87 seconds with a third place effort in the 60m hurdles.

Senior Chauncey Beatty turned in a post-season qualifying time of 52.20 seconds with a second place finish in the 400 meter, while sophomore Wilkerson Pierre placed third overall in the triple jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 12.03 meters.

On the track, junior Brian Amaral (3rd) and sophomore Joseph Darrigo (10th) qualified for MASCAC's in the 3000m with times of 8:57.19 and 9:44.15 respectively, while freshman Troy Hoyt registered a post-season qualifying time of 5:00.12 with a seventh place finish in the mile

Senior Brandon Hannon placed tenth overall in the 800 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 2:08.02, while classmate Eric Custadio added a pair of MASCAC qualifying times in the 60m (7.38) and the 200 meter (24.35), placing ninth and fifth respectively.

In the long jump junior Connor Flynn (4th) and Stalters (8th) posted post-season qualifying marks of 6.23m and 5.88m respectively, while the distance medley relay team of Amaral, Darrigo, Beatty and senior Joseph Little earned top honors with a solid time of 11:04.46.

In the field, newcomer Kyle Nelson set a new PR in the weight throw with a MASCAC qualifying toss of 12.80 meters to place second overall, while also qualifying for MASCAC's in the shot put with a third place mark of 12.51m.

Senior Joseph Bernardini  registered a pair of post-season qualifying marks in the weight throw (8th) and the shotput (4th) with tosses of 10.44m and 12.33m respectively, while Stalters rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the afternoon with a MASCAC qualifying vault of 3.25 meters in the pole vault to finish sixth in the event.

The Fitchburg State men's indoor track team will be back in action following the winter break as they compete in the 2017 Reggie Poyau invitational, hosted by Brandeis University on Saturday, January 14th at 11 a.m.
