Fitchburg State Excels At Reggie Poyau Invitational

Hastings and Stalters pace Falcons with DIII NE qualifying times

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's indoor track team was in action this afternoon, placing fifth overall with a total of 66 points at the 2016-17 Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational, hosted by Brandeis University.

Junior Jake Hastings led the way for the Falcons with a DIII New England qualifying time of 8:48.63 in the 3000 meter to place third overall, while sophomore Cameron Stalters finished second in the 55m hurdles with a DIII NE qualifying time of 8.15 seconds.

Junior Brian Amaral was also solid, placing second in the mile with post-season qualifying time of 4:29.63, while the 4x400 meter relay team of Hastings, senior Chauncey Beatty, classmate Matthew Cuomo and sophomore Austin Landress turned in a third place time of 3:39.58.

In the 600 meter, Beatty posted a MASCAC qualifying time of 1:25.73 to finish second overall, while junior Mark Tonelli finished ninth in the 800 meter with a time of 2:16.49 to qualify for MASCAC's.

Stalters added MASCAC qualifying marks in the long jump (6.01m) and the pole vault (3.05m), placing sixth and fourth respectively, while sophomore Anthony Darrigo finished ninth in the 3000 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 9:23.77.

In the weight throw, junior Joseph Bernardini (11.39m) and sophomore Brendon Courtney (10.59m) qualified for MASCAC's, placing second and fifth respectively, while Bernardini (6th), Courtney (5th) and freshman Kyle Nelson (3rd) notched post-season qualifying marks of 12.14m, 12.20m and 12.47m in the shot put.

Junior Connor Flynn rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the afternoon, placing fifth overall in the long jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 6.12 meters.

The Fitchburg State men's indoor track team returns to action next Sunday as they compete in the 2017 Greater Boston Track Club Invite, hosted by Harvard for a meet starting at 10 a.m.
