Fitchburg State Shines At Greater Boston Track Club Invite

Sattiewhite takes top honors in the high jump with Open NE qualifying mark of 2.00 meters

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's indoor track and field team recently competed in the 2017 Greater Boston Track Club Invite, hosted by Harvard University on Sunday afternoon at the Harvard Gordon Track and Tennis Center.

Senior Ben Sattiewhite led the way for the Falcons, placing first overall in the high jump with an Open New England qualifying mark of 2.00 meters, while junior Jake Hastings turned in a DIII NE qualifying time of 4:19.14 in the mile with a fourth place effort.

Senior Chauncey Beatty posted a second place finish in the 800 meter with a DIII New England qualifying time of 1:59.49, while sophomore Cameron Stalters added a DIII NE qualifying time of 8.68 seconds in the 60m hurdles, finishing third overall.

Hastings (2:03.57) and junior Mark Tonelli (2:13.84) placed sixth and seventh in the 800 meter Invitational and Open respectively to qualify for MASCAC's, while senior Matthew Cuomo notched a tenth place finish in the 1000 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 2:44.01.

In the 5000 meter, sophomores Joseph Darrigo (8th) and Anthony Darrigo (9th) collected MASCAC qualifying times of 16:54.07 and 16:55.28 respectively, while junior Brian Amaral registered a solid time of 9:27.07 in the two mile run to place 12th overall.

In the field, sophomore Marckdonard Bastien turned in a post-season qualifying mark of 6.16 meters in the long jump with a sixth place effort, while in the triple jump, Bastien (7th) and sophomore Wilkerson Pierre (8th) added MASCAC qualifying distances of 12.24m and 12.16m respectively.

Junior Joseph Bernardini qualified for MASCAC's in the shot put (13.16m) and the weight throw (11.55m), placing fifth and sixth respectively, while freshman Kyle Nelson added a pair of MASCAC qualifying marks in the shot put (6th) and weight throw (8th) with tosses of 12.50 meters and 10.85 meters respectively to round out the top Falcon efforts on the afternoon.

The Fitchburg State men's indoor track and field team will be back in action next weekend as they complete in both the 2017 Tufts Stampede Invitational and the 2017 BU John Thomas Invitational.
