Fitchburg State Places Third At MASCAC Championships

Amaral sets new Alliance Championship Record mark in the 5000 meter

GORHAM, Maine. – The Fitchburg State men's indoor track team was in action this afternoon, placing third overall at the 2017 MASCAC/Alliance Championships with a total of 110 points, hosted by the University of Southern Maine.

Junior Brian Amaral lead the way for the Falcons after claiming the Alliance Championship in the 5000 meter with a DIII New England qualifying and new Alliance Championship Meet record time of 15:18.89, while also taking the MASCAC crown in the 3000 meter with a DIII NE qualifying time of 8:50.61.

Senior Ben Sattiewhite took the Alliance crown in the high with an Open NE qualifying mark of 1.99 meters, while junior Jake Hastings placed first in the mile with a DIII NE qualifying time of 4:22.02. Sophomore Cameron Stalters claimed the MASCAC championship in the 55 meter hurdles with an Open New England qualifying time of 7.90 seconds.

In the 800, senior Chauncey Beatty turned in a first place time of 2:00.29, while classmate Joseph Little followed in third place with time of 2:02.97. Senior Matthew Cuomo posted a third place effort in the 1000 meter with a time of 2:39.33, while sophomore Anthony Darrigo placed fifth in the mile with solid time of 4:43.69.

The 4x200 meter relay team of senior Eric Custadio, classmate Nicholas Levenson, junior Connor Flynn and sophomore Daniel Nkansah posted a third place time of 1:36.66, while Levenson added a fifth place effort in the 55 meter hurdles with time of 8.76 seconds.

In the 600, sophomore Austin Landress notched a time of 1:26.38 to place fifth overall, while Hastings turned in a second place effort in the 3000 meter with time of 9:00.61. Sophomore Joseph Darrigo was also solid for the Green and Gold, placing fourth in the 5000 meter with time of 16:13.49.

In the field, Stalters finished sixth in the pole vault with mark of 3.55 meters, while in the triple jump, sophomore Marckdonard Bastien (12.48m) and classmate Wilkerson Pierre (12.31m) finished seventh and eighth respectively.

Junior Joseph Bernardini finished ninth in the shotput with a toss of 13.05 meters, while Bastien added a fourth place effort in the long jump with mark of 6.17 meters to round out the top Falcon performances on the day..

The Fitchburg State men's indoor track team returns to action next weekend as select members compete in the 2016-17 DIII New England Indoor Championships, hosted by Tufts University, starting on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m.
