Amaral Selected MASCAC Indoor Track Athlete Of The Week
Tewksbury, Mass. native collects first weekly accolade of the year
FITCHBURG, Mass. – Fitchburg State junior Brian Amaral was named Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
The third-year Falcon receives his first weekly honor on the season after leading the Falcons to a fourth place finish at the 2016-17 MASCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday afternoon. Amaral set a new MASCAC/New England Alliance record in the 5000 meter with an Open New England qualifying time of 15:18.89 to claim the MASCAC/Alliance crown in that event.
Before capturing the MASCAC championship in the 3000 meter with a DIII NE qualifying time of 8:50.81 at the 2016-17 MASCAC/Alliance championship meet on Saturday, hosted by the University of Southern Maine.
The Fitchburg State men's indoor track & field team returns to action next weekend as select members compete in the 2016-17 Division III New England Championships, hosted by Tufts University, starting on Friday at 2 PM.
