Fitchburg State Takes On Open New England Championships

DMR team of Hastings, Landress, Beatty & Amaral set new school record for Falcons

BOSTON, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's indoor track team was in action this afternoon, competing in the 2017 Open New England Championships, hosted by Northeastern University at the Reggie Lewis Track & Field Center.

The distance medley relay team of junior Jake Hastings, classmate Brian Amaral, senior Chauncey Beatty and sophomore Austin Landress earned Open New England honors, placing seventh overall with a time of 10:20.16 to set a new school record in the process. 

Senior Ben Sattiewhite also notched Open New England honors after placing fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.99 meters, while Amaral added an eighth place finish in the 3000 meter with a time of 8:35.79 to capture Open New England honors.

In the 5000 meter, sophomore Joseph Darrigo registered a solid time of 16:22.06 with a 28th place effort, while fellow sophomore Anthony Darrigo followed in 29th place with a time of 16:24.54 to round out the top effort for the Falcons on the afternoon.

The Fitchburg State men's indoor track team returns to action next weekend as select members compete in the 2017 ECAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Ithaca College, starting on Friday at 2 p.m.
